Like communication...

The school year has come to a close for the students and I am hopefully bringing mine to a close on Tuesday after hopefully completing the task of cleaning out an entire classroom that has not been emptied since before I started using it 11 years ago. It's not a small task...

This past school year wasn't an easy one. I would think I would know what the administration wanted and try to work with that only to find out I was wrong. I put goals into motion based on what they said, only to have them change their mind midstream and not communicate the switch. Trying to keep up is exhausting. On top of that, I'm female and most of them are male. It became really clear that my opinion didn't matter years ago, and it has only gotten worse.

There was also the realization that they really do not have a clue as to what a Technology Education teacher does or about the content/scope of what they cover. Apparently, I know nothing when it comes to working with technology or in training people how to use it. Also, I don't know if I am more offended by an administrator neglecting to explain why I am not a good fit for a position or the fact that he tells me I am doing an amazing job with a program that he clearly knows nothing about even though he is the one that wanted me to implement it with no background knowledge...

In the course of all this, I feel like I'm not valued as a professional anymore and there is no value on any type of communication. This is probably a bit widespread in education these days. Anyone else relate? or deal with something similar?

Little things on St. Patrick's Day...

Right now, happiness is knowing that there is corned beef cooking in the crock pot at home... It's the little things, really!

Corned Beef in the Crock pot
3-5 lbs corned beef brisket
1 onion cut into chunks
1 lb baby carrots
2 lbs red potatoes, quartered
1 bottle hard cider
20 oz water
1 T coarse ground mustard
seasoning packets
salt and pepper as desired

Put that all in the crock pot and cook on low for 8 hours.

Have the husband pick up soda bread since mama is to busy to bake and dinner is ready!
